We were searching for places for a small day trip from Copenhagen, Denmark. There were several fins options available , but the most convenient and fascinating is Roskilde. Roskilde is a small harbour city located 30 kms west of Copenhagen on the Danish island of Zealand.
Roskilde is very rich in history dating back to pre-Christian Viking age. It is one of the oldest cities in Denmark. Roskilde developed into the hub of Viking land and a sea port connecting major sea routes. From the 11th century to 1443. it was the capital of Denmark. Roskilde was founded by King Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson. Yes, the same King whose name was used to name the Bluetooth technology.
We visited for a daytrip and were mostly concerned with the major attractions. You can reach the city by train from Copenhagen in just about 40 minutes. The attractions start right outside the Roskilde station.
