If the currently soaring gold prices are making you stay away from the precious metal, then you now have a chance to see it in a spectacular new museum that looks straight out of a dream. In just four years of conception, Europe’s new state-of-the-art museum Goldkammer Frankfurt is open for viewing. A sequence of spectacular underground galleries and chambers, it is designed by renowned museum specialist HG Merz.
Inside the museum, an elevator ride takes you underground, giving you the experience of entering a real mine, and showcases nearly 500 unique gold artefacts spanning over 6,000 years. The last chamber, which is also the largest of all, stages 300 gold bars from the Rothschild collection. This can also be booked for both business and private occasions.
All chambers are fully equipped with audiovisual and have animated display boards that depict the origins and cultural significance of the exhibit. Dedicated to inform and amaze visitors of all ages, it also has a special underground tour to keep children entertained. This particular entertainment tour designed for them takes them along a vein of gold on the ground to discover secrets of the museum mascot Agulia. With exhibits using fairy tales at numerous digital stations, Agulia introduces them to interesting facts about the precious metal.
The museum also offers a dining experience under a special atmosphere. The Café, Bar and Restaurant Aureus has an outdoor terrace that invites visitors to linger around. Under the roof of the museum, chef Christian Senff serves culinary delights to enhance your experience.
Located in the heart of Frankfurt, it is run by Director Dr Nadja Tomoum who is a known name in major preservation and exhibition projects.:
The Museum Goldkammer Frankfurt is open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. A ticket costs EUR 10(Rs.785) and children under the age of 18 have free entry.
