Attention, beach lovers! Are you planning a beach holiday this winter that doesn't cost you bomb? If yes, then you don't have to look too far as holidaying in the most beloved beach destination in India, Goa might just get cheaper this tourist season of 2019-20. Reason being, the collapse of Thomas Cook UK, which also operated charter flights to Goa. Someone's loss is someones' gain, and this time, it's the tourists who may reap benefits.
Why is it happening?
As the British travel company filed for bankruptcy last month, a number of European tourists who had already booked packages via Thomas Cook UK, are now on an unprecedented cancellation spree. This sudden crash of a major carrier has now made Goa a consumer's market.
Apparently, this leaves many hotels and resorts in the state with a huge task of maintaining occupancy during the tourist season. And with rooms vacant, travel agents are offering the hoteliers in Goa to drop prices in exchange for higher occupancy, a deal which they can't resist, even if it's not as profitable. This means accommodation in Goa this season is going to be a lot cheaper than usual.
What can tourists expect?
With the Goa tourism already staring at losses more that Rs 100 crore, the prices of mid-range accommodations are more than likely to take a dip. Besides, restaurants and local markets are also bracing for the impact by slashing prices of their menus. This can actually cut your trip expenses by significant margins. The precise number, however, cannot be calculated yet.
But one thing is certain, this season is going to be a real feat for tourists in Goa, especially for the ones who have witnessed many delayed or cancelled Goa trips. Aren't you already planning one? Let us know in the comments below!
