Himachal Pradesh, a paradise in itself has been the centre of attention for every backpacker for a while now. If you want to experience this beautiful land of gods and a wonderful social world of hostels, this is the post you are looking for.
I have tried to cover all major places in Himachal that attract backpackers from around the world in this hostel trail.
The Route
Delhi – Shimla – Chitkul – Kaza – Manali – Kasol – Bir – Mcleodganj – Dalhousie – Pathankot
Total distance covered: More than 1500km
The journey begins from Delhi, which is well connected with the rest of the cities of India and world. The first stop on this journey is Shimla. One can take an overnight bus from Delhi to Shimla.
Shimla being one of the favourite destinations of every Delhiite is full of hotels and luxury resorts, also it is full of tourists. It is not on a backpacker's radar, thus there are not many hostels there. But Thira Shimla, is a perfect place if you want to explore Shimla. They have an in-house cook and a perfect location away from the maddening crowd.

Zostel Chitkul is located right next to the Baspa river and it offers you a panoramic view of the Himalayan range. There are options available of having a private room apart from the dorm as well. You also get free WiFi everywhere in the hostel, which is a big thing considering the network issues in Chitkul.

With a view of snowclad peaks of Dhauladhar, this hostel is located at close proximity from Bhagsu Nag. The property offers a shared lounge, a restaurant, a garden and terrace along with free WiFi. Cycle rental service is also available if you want to explore Mcleodganj on your own.
