Kheerganga trek was in my bucket list for so many years but this October 2018, I got a chance to complete this trek with my friend. It was my first ever trek so I was very excited for it. Everything was planned from Volvo booking to hotel stay in Chhalal, Kasol. I won’t be wasting anytime and going to keep this brief and give details about how to reach Kasol from Delhi? Where to stay? How to commute in Kasol? How to reach Kheerganga from Kasol and Manikaran?.
So let’s start
Kasol
Kasol is in the state of Himachal Pradesh in Northern India, near Manali. It is in the Parvati valley and is famous among the Israelis. There are so many trekking options nearby which one can go for and enjoy.
How to reach Kasol from Delhi?
We booked Himgaurav AC (HRTC bus) till Bhunter which cost us almost 1100 INR. There are ordinary and Volvo buses too charging 650 to 1500 INR which can be booked as per own travel convenience. Some buses directly go to Kasol but services are very less. Best way is to book till Bhunter and from there board a local buses going to Kasol which will take another 1 hour and charge around 80 INR.
Total Duration from Delhi to Kasol = 12-14 hours
Where to stay?
There are so many options to stay in Kasol and nearby villages. If you will search online, there are so many budgets options starting from 400 INR per night. However, our hotel booking was in village Chhalal which is around 1.5 km from Kasol and is on a walking distance. You can reach Chhalal by trekking along the mesmerizing Parvati River. Hotel Moksh was our destination and we started our journey to reach there from Kasol and after 30 minutes of trek, we reached our hotel. We booked a room with balcony so we can enjoy the beautiful view of hills.
Hotel Moksh
Address: Chaalal Village.
Rate: 1100 INR (For 2 People, Balcony Room with View)
Cleanliness: The room was neat and cleans with an attached big washroom which had cold and hot running water facility.
Service: They don’t have room service; however, they have a restaurant where they can cook food for you which is chargeable. Music and Snooker table is available.
Food Quality: We personally didn’t get a chance to try their food; however, ordered Egg Bhurji which was okay.
Location: Hotel is situated at nice location and away from the chaos of Kasol.
Things to do in Kasol
Kasol does not have sightseeing; however, one can enjoy the beauty of Parvati valley and spend ample amount of time sitting nearby Parvati River. There are so many trekking options and villages which can be explored near Kasol. Few famous treks are like Kheerganga, Tosh and Malana.
Food in Kasol
Kasol market is not so big but still got some food joints where you can enjoy your meal. There are some good cafes too. If you are looking simple food and you are in tight budget, many options are available which will hardly cost you more than 100 INR for one person and breakfast can be done at less than that.
Kheerganga Trek
Kheerganga Trek was our main destination for which we went to Kasol. It is a beautiful and mesmerizing 14 km trek which has some thrill too. There are some patches where we need to take some special care but rest the trek is easy and can be completed in 4 hours.
How to reach Kheerganga from Kasol?
There are local buses going to Bershaini (starting point of trek) from Kasol Bus Stand which charges around Rs. 40 per person. Also, one can opt for small cabs which will charge Rs. 800.
Time duration from Kasol to Bershaini is almost 1 hour.
Bershaini is the place form where Kheerganga Trek starts. There are two ways to do this trek; one is from forest area and other one from village. I would recommend to go via forest area and come via village route so that you can experience both the routes.
Stay at Kheerganga
There are different types of tents which you can easily get for 200 rs per person. There are big tents for 4-6 people which are around 800-1000 rs per night. You will get a basic dinner which you can enjoy under the sky roof at 200-250 Rs.
Don’t forget the holy dip in the Kheerganga Hot Spring Pond. It will re-boast your energy. Trust me it is an awesome experience.
Manikaran
After a night stay at Kheerganga, we started our journey back to Bershaini next day early morning. If you want to visit Manikaran, there are buses from Bershaini which charges around 40 rs per person till Manikaran. One can easily spent couple of hours at Manikaran Gurudwara and visit the nearby temples.
We also spent some time at this holy place and boarded our bus back to Bhunter. After reaching Bhunter, we boarded our Volvo bus from Volvo bus stand and came back to Delhi.
Overall, this was my trek and I really had a good time with my friend.
