What is unique in this village?

To keep the city clean and green, all the citizens young or old work together to keep the village clean isn't it a great and cool thing!
Another enormous thing is that there is a 100% literacy rate. Littering and smoking are completely banned! (I KNOW- in Monica's voice!)

Places to visit / things to do in mawlynnong

1) Jingmaham living root bridge

Living Root bridges are known to come into existence in the West Jaintia Hills locale and East Khasi Hills region. Living root bridge, located 2km before mawlynnong is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. This bridge is hanging on a peaceful river, connecting the massive rubber tree. It's a delightful and glorious place to visit!

Around 2km away from Mawlynnong, a treehouse known as skywalk or nohwet viewpoint is located. It's one of the best places to visit and have experience of it. Skywalk is 85 feet ladder structure made with bamboo sticks and tied with jute and bamboo ropes. Visitors have to climb those steps in a circular way to reach the top and have an eye bird view!

4) To try local dishes

The best part about this village is that whatever local dishes you try are prepared from organically grown fruits and vegetables. Even the meat comes from inhouse-bred birds. you must try traditional khaki food. There are lots of options, one of the famous is tungrybai, a mesh of soybeans, bamboo leaves and local species.

5)Balancing rock of mawlynnong

A kilometre away from mawlynnong balancing rock is located. A large boulder resting on a much smaller stone without losing its balance is a speciality of this place. Even earthquakes have not been able to unstable this place. It's a great place for photography. The locals believe the rock formation to be an ancient shrine of the Khasi tribes; you should visit this historic yet phenomenon place!

6) Tribal locals

The God garden is inherent in the Khasi tribe. They are super sweet and welcoming locals you'll meet ever. The most special thing about the tribe is that child gets the mother's surname and the wealth of the mother goes to the youngest daughter of the family. It's a great start for women's empowerment and equality.
