I have always been fascinated by the kaleidoscope of colours festivals bring along with their pompous celebrations - they never disappoint a curious explorer with an inquisitive mind who want to know it all.

While my physical presence at festivals have mostly been restricted to Easter, Ganesh Chathurthi, Diwali, Dussehra, Durga Puja and Christmas - which are widely celebrated across India, I have been ignorant of those which are localized - namely festivals of Ladakh till I came across a travel magazine which had a sub-section of it.

As I flipped through the pages of the magazine, I became engrossed in the third edition of the Nomadic Festival 2023 which will be celebrated in Ladakh.

History of the Festival

The Nomadic Festival of Ladakh traces its roots back centuries to the nomadic tribes that have traversed the high-altitude landscapes of Ladakh for generations. These tribes, including the Changpas, Drokpas, and Baltis, have been an integral part of the region's cultural fabric, embracing a nomadic lifestyle driven by the cycles of nature and their traditional occupations such as herding livestock.
