Bhimashankar Temple is a Jyotirlinga among the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is very holy place. It is an ancient shrine of Lord shiva. It is more than 13th century old temple. Other goddess temples and shrines are around the temple. Bhimashankar is also declared as wildlife sanctuary too.
You can’t miss the nature scenery during trekking / way to reach temple.
There is interesting history of Lord shiva and evil (asura) Bhima with this temple. It is situated in the very peaceful and remote area far away from the pune city. We drive from pune city itself. The architecture of temple is the Nagara style. A roman style huge bell can be seen in front of the temple.
If you love trekking than this place is perfect for you. Only problem is in monsoon you need to be very much careful even driving car too. But we were here in monsoon only and lush, foggy environment just superb and our trip become memorable. Very nice and peaceful natural place of lord shiva in the hills.
How to reach:
It is better to hire car from pune city. Travel by train or airport upto pune and than hire car. There is not such good accommodation facilities are nearby Bhimashnakar and temple dharamsala still under construction. We directly drove from pune to bhimashankar and than went to Shirdi and than stayed over night there. You can stayed in pune and visit the place and come back to pune.
On the road trip from pune to Bhimashankar not such good facilities of water and foods are available. So it is advisable to take your food and water supply. At bhimashankar there are local shops from where you get snacks or local foods.
