Karakol Lakes is a group of seven mountain lakes in Russia, on the territory of the Altai Republic.
The lowest lake is located at an altitude of 1820 meters above sea level, the highest - at an altitude of about 2097 meters.
The lakes are not far from each other and are connected by streams.
Karakol lakes have a different nature, due to a significant difference in elevation. The lower lakes are surrounded by cedars; above the forest they are inferior
a place for alpine meadows, and small upper lakes are surrounded by tundra.
The water in the lakes is cold and clean, there are practically no aquatic plants in them, as well as fish. The road to the lakes passes through the taiga and has no hard road. We got to the lakes in a GAZ-66 military vehicle.
I had to drive along huge stones and dumped trees through the taiga along clay, crossing rivers ford. The road is really very scary. The distance to Lake 5 is only 30 km. But the travel time was 4 hours one way. From the car window we saw a real fairy forest: old spruce trees covered with moss, red fly agaric and fallen trees.
The road from one lake to another is also absent; I had to go along a path of mountain stones.
On the peaks you can see the snow that has not yet melted, although it is already August and this is the end of summer.
In general, the Karakol lakes is a beautiful place, with mighty forests, clear water, high mountain
Welcome to Russia.
