At the height of 5154m: What all to carry while visiting this lake

To visit Gurudongmer Lake one has to stay at lachen the previous night. Cars are available from Gangtok to Lachen. Its nearly a day long journey. The road is beautiful and multiple viewpoints are there to enjoy. You should try to reach Lachen before evening due to sudden weather changes at this height. Plenty hotels are available at Lachen.

Next morning as soon as possible set out for Gurudongmar. Now here is a list of things to carry,
1. Official passes for which you need to carry your VOTER ID cards, only aadhar is not enough
2. Kaapur or camphor to help you breathe properly at such heights
3. Warm clothes are must since the lake has sub zero temperature throughout the year
4. If an elderly person is there make sure to carry small PORTABLE OXYGEN CANS, they can be really helpful in a crisis

Now, once you set off it will take some hours to reach a cold desert and valley area just before the lake. The long drive through barren area will blow your mind for sure. The yellow brown soil, reddish rocky mountains and blue sky gives you the perfect picture frames.

After crossing this dry valley you will come across the bright blue waters of Gurudongmer. The snow capped mountain at background creates a unique frame to this beautiful lake. The blue color of the water is something you have never seen before. White clouds on top of these just adds to the magnificence.
