If the regular weekend getaway spots near Mumbai and Pune bore you, then it's time for you to give Alibag a try. A 3-hour drive from any of these cities will unlock beautiful horizons of beauty for you. Being a coastal town, Alibag obviously has beautiful beaches, but the ancient forts add more to the landscape of the city.

Here's a 2-day itinerary to get the most out of your weekend. But first, some call-outs.

Travel

It is recommended to travel in your own vehicle or a take a self-drive rental, as public transport isn't the best in the city. Traveling with your own vehicle will also give you the freedom to hit more spots and at your own convenience.

Stay

As the city shuts down by sundown, it is recommended to stay at a place that has an in-house restaurant and has good accommodation facilities. There's no food delivery service. We stayed at

They had really spacious rooms and the food at their restaurant had decent food.

Day 1

Very near to almost every popular hotel in the town is the Alibag beach. There are a lot of activities that you can do there including:

- ATV ride

- Bicycle ride

- Banana ride

- Other water sports

If you take the ATV ride, make sure you don't take the electric one. It's no fun.

From the beach, you can take a ferry to

The unique thing about this beach is that it has a long horizon-level stretch of sand. There isn't a steep introduction of water and you have a lot of land-room. The sunset here was spectacular.

Day 2

You can either explore other places in and around the city, like

- Raiwadi Beach

- Nagaon Beach

- Revanda Fort

or head a little further to

Murud-Janjira Fort is situated on an oval-shaped rock off the Arabian Sea coast near the port city of Murud. Janjira is considered one of the strongest coastal forts in India. The fort is approached by sailboats from Rajapuri jetty.

It'd take an entire day to complete this visit. The ferry to the fort closes at around 4 PM, so it is advised to plan in advance.
