Reaching there:

Guhagar is 278 Kms from Mumbai & takes 7.5 hours to reach. The Mumbai Goa highway is perennially in bad shape and hence an early start from Mumbai is recommended. We decided to take the road upto Dapoli. From Dapoli a ferry service takes you and your vehicle across the creek to Dabhol. (yes of the Enron fame) Once on the other side it takes another hour to reach Guhagar.

At Guhagar:

Guhagar is a small sleepy village with a beautiful coastal strip, a never-ending array of coconut & betel trees & cutsy red roofed houses. Accommodation is available mostly in the form of B&Bs. Rooms are basic but clean, the food is awesome. Advantage of staying in places like that is that the home cooked food is to die for, the beach is just a glance away & the locals are so excited to show you around.

Since we had just 2 days at hand, without wasting much time we were ready to hit the beach in time for the sunset by 6.

At the beach :

The beach was a long strip of clean white sand. Since it was low tide the time we reached we did not venture too much in the water, however the sunset was magnificent.

The breeze was cool and in no time we had starry skies above our heads and the cool soft sand under our feet. The beach had sparingly low visitors that too during Christmas vacation. Something that we always crave for at Juhu beach at Mumbai and rarely ever get!

We wound up the first day after a satisfying meal at our B&B. The next day had plenty in plans for us.

We practically started our day at the beach.  The kids and adults had an amazing time playing in the clear blue waters at the beach. The weather and the tide were just perfect & so was the sea water, not too hot and not too cold! A perfect warm for all of us to enjoy the swim.

After a long playtime at the beach, we had our breakfast and headed to our rooms for a quick shower.

At the Lighhouse :

In the afternoon we had planned something that I always wanted to do since childhood, visit  a Lighthouse. Now how many of us have dreamed of being in a lighthouse after reading all the Enid Blyton stories in our childhood. Well, now you know where to go to fulfill this dream!

The Anjanavel lighthouse stood 20 Kms away from the main town of Guhagar.

It stood tall and strong on a rock at the corner of the ocean. In order to get to the top we had to climb up a narrow winding staircase & a steep ladder which led us to a dwarf sized door which finally took us to the deck. The view from the top was stunning to say the least. The never ending expanse of the ocean & cobalt blue waters splashing across the rocks at the beach was an amazing experience both for the kids and for us.

At the fort :

After this we headed to a fort for Gopalgad. This fort is more of wall built on a high rock, probably served as a watch-point to keep the enemies at bay. The watch windows served as amazing photo booths & gave an stunning view of the ocean below.

After a busy day at the beach, the lighthouse & the fort, it was time to go to sleep with all the beautiful memories that we created here at Guhagar.
