Gone are the days when Delh-ites had to wait for the weekend to enjoy animal safari at Jim Corbett for here is some good news for all of you! The capital city may soon get its very own animal safari park and that too in just next two years! How amazing is that!
According to an article published by the Hindustan Times, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hardeep Singh Puri confirmed the news.
“We have decided to build a city forest or an eco-park in Badarpur. It would have a unique herbivore and carnivore animal safari and the project would be completed within 24 months.” Puri said.
If that was not enough, a park is already in pipeline in Dwarka which would not only have the city forest but will also boast of representations from various states across the country. By representations we mean both monuments and cuisines.
“It would be based on the concept of a mini-India where we would have representations of all the states. It will have a forest and act as a huge new green lung for the city,” he added.
The site where the Badarpur thermal power plant is located will have the city forest sprawling across 884 acres.
Earlier, the Hindustan Times had reported about central government’s plan to convert the once-polluting power station into an eco-park.
“Delhi doesn’t have a safari where people can go and enjoy nature and see animals. It is not a zoo. It would be a natural forest,” said Tarun Kapoor, Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority.
As per the plan, the park will have various interesting elements like a large water body, replicas of major monuments, an aquarium and food stalls.
According to Puri, the idea to develop these two parks came up during a conversation with a lieutenant governor of Delhi.
“I had asked a simple question (during the conversation). What are we doing for Delhi. There has to be some place where our children and their children can go. That is when these options came,” Puri said.
Excited? Just two more years and you will not have to look for a weekend getaway to get closer to nature. Forest park, animal safari and lush green beauty. Could we ask for more?
