A UNESCO heritage site, a pure natural bliss stands a mere 7 hours drive from Mumbai. In the hills of Satara, Kaas Plateau boasts a huge variety of flowers that bloom in the period just after the monsoon bid adieu in the region.
Morning is the best time to view the flowers as they are have bloomed fresh in the cooler atmosphere. The dew drops on the petals give a soothing feeling to the eyes and definitely wears off your tire from the journey. And it is also the best time as not many tourists would have reached to the place.
Even if you are not an botany enthusiast, when you witness an entire area in a blanket of colorful flowers, it surely brings a smile to your face. Nature truly has the capacity to entertain with its own tricks, and Kaas Plateau is perhaps one of the best acts of the nature. Don't go by our words, check the photos to believe for yourselves.
We love to visit a place early in the morning for 2 reasons. One, the golden hour gives some impeccable shots and two, you beat the crowds. Given the popularity of the place, it is always beneficial to reach there before tourists start building up, so that you can have shots like these.
We had a ball of a time just witnessing the amazing shades that just kept on popping out in front of us as we moved from one section of the plateau to the other. The areas that have denser penetration of the flowers have been fenced and you can only witness them from a distance. However, even from a distance the magic is something worth witnessing.
As one sets to explore the marvelous plateau, one comes upon gorgeous flower beds on either side of the walk way. A wide range of flowers blossom in the stretch, and some of them complement each other so well that they blend together with perfection. A beautiful sight on offer, and the color of the flowers is so rich and vivid, seems like you walk into an art piece that's just painted by the Almighty!
For all those who love photography, it is the place for you to just go berserk and click everything that you can witness through the view finder of your lens. "Macro Mode Unleashed" is what we termed during our visit. Check the shots below to see what we saw.
And at the far end of the plateau, is a pond full of water lilies. However, the hike takes around 25-30 minutes, and it gets hots as the sun starts rising, so it is advisable only if you can bear the heat. The place looks something like this.
You get to see panoramic views from the plateau of the surroundings and Kaas Lake adds to the beauty. It is actually a perfect place to take great pictures that will be cherished in memories forever.
Kaas Pathar – Entry Fees & Related Details
The entry fees for the visiting the park is Rs. 100 per person and is open from 7.00 AM in the morning to 5.00 PM in the evening. We got our tickets from the entry gate itself, however it is advisable to book your tickets online on their official website as sometimes they limit the number of footfalls if the tourists increase in number.
There is a short hike of around 1-1.5 km from the parking area and the entry gate of the plateau. You can either walk or use their transport facility. They have a few Tempo Travelers to ferry the passengers to the main gate, and charge a minimal of 10-20 bucks for the same. However, you must reach early, because once the crowd starts gathering, it takes a lot of time waiting in the queue and heat will tire you up.
Snacks & Refreshment Options
There are no restaurants or tea counters within the park. However, the locals there sell some authentic local snack items like Pithala-Bhakri, Buttermilk, Lemon Juice and Cucumber salad. We tried the Pithala-Bhakri, it was heaven early in the morning and gulped it down with a glass of lemon juice.
Best Time to Visit
The flowers bloom during September-October only and you will have to rely on your luck to see the bloom we saw. But it is worth taking a shot, although it is advisable to confirm with locals or the officials at the plateau.
That being said, it is a wonderful place to witness the beauty of nature.
