Initial Trekking DaysI decided to push my limits and avoided the flight which saved few grands for me. That is the reason I went to Phaplu (2413m) by taxi. From Phaplu its 3-4 extra days depends on one's speed of hiking to reach Lukla. And trust me! Sometimes I think that it was not the right decision since it takes extra days and a lot of efforts and the conditions were much tougher than I thought so if you like challenges than only you choose that route or Kathmandu to Lukla is a great option. The village I had to reach in three days was Surke (2300m) which is near Lukla. I did not have to go to Lukla from Surke but directly to Phakding which takes almost 4 hours from both Lukla as well Kathmandu. This is the day when I connected to the main route of EBC and met many trekkers.

Kathmandu to LuklaOn 6th April , we set out our journey to explore Himalayas . We went to Lukla by Tara Air . There are many airlines which take you to Lukla which is the starting point of the expedition . Few of them are Goma Air , Tara Air . This flight journey of around 40 minutes will be the best in your life as it takes you away from buildings to mountain ranges of the himalayas . This flight will show you how high are these mountain ranges compared to anything in the world . Its a beautiful journey passing through clouds , waterfalls. Here is a small video showing you the journey – lukla journeyPilot lands you to what is called as runway but that may be the only road in the Everest region .
The way up from Lukla to Everest base camp trails though the gorge of turquoise Dudh kosi , a glacial runoff that originates from high altitudes of Everest, surrounded by lush green Rhododendron forests giving way to more alpine land as we go higher. Further the path traverses through glacial moraines and foot hills of snow clad peaks offering spell binding views all along the route making it the grandest walk in the Himalayan region.
