History of "Gaitore ki Chhatriyan"

If we go by the word 'Gaitore' which means in Hindi "Gaye ka Thor'' that means a place for the gone. The site was designed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. When he shifted his capital to Jaipur in year 1733, all the cremations of Kachhwaha Kings were done here since then, except for Maharaja Sawai Ishwari Singh. As per the historians, last rites of Maharaja Sawai Ishwari Singh were performed in the 'City Palace' of Jaipur city.

After the cremation of the all the kings, each of these Cenotaphs were then built in their memories at the same place. We must say that each of these cenotaphs or Chhatris is such a beautiful piece of amazing ancient Indian architecture.
