"The best education I ever received was through TRAVEL". - Lisa Ling

In order to escape from our daily routine,we could squeeze out 5 days including the holiday for Mahalaya. So a group of friends headed for North Sikkim, which was on our list for quite some time.

Day 1

We reached NJP Railway station in the morning on 28th September, and headed straight for Gangtok by reserving a cab.

Few things to note here.

1. There are plenty agents all around trying to make you book tours from their agency only. They will cover all expenses including stay, meals & sight seeing.Package costs are budget-friendly.

2. Occasionally,if one is planning for North or East Sikkim, keep in mind, that the current roadside conditions are always not available with them.

We were told that road to Gurudongmar Lake was closed, while in fact it was opened 2 days back.

3. Share cabs charge Rs 300 pp till Gangtok, while reserving the whole cab costs Rs 2800 - 3000.That is only upto the taxi-stand,mind it.

We booked The Hill Castle hotel at Gangtok.Away from the hustle bustle of MG marg ,and with amazing views from each room.

Day 2

Today we started our journey for North Sikkim. We already made contact with our driver yesterday, who made our permits. He came to pick us up from the hotel,& we left for Lachen.

We came across quite a number of spectacular waterfalls towards Lachen, which presented with plenty photo ops.

Day 3

With tired eyes & incomplete sleep, we started our journey early morning for Gurudongmar Lake.We were supposed to start at 4 am,but as it was raining,we left the hotel 1 hr late.

The view along the journey left us spellbound & speechless. As if every second was filled with our effort to quench a thirst for nature's amazing beauty.

At last, around 11 am,we reached the lake. Its serenity, beauty & magnificence left us awestruck.I don't have enough words to describe,so letting my photos speak for themselves.

One loses track of time at the place. Our driver urged us to to start our return journey,as there is a time limit of cars being allowed exiting from Lachen.

We came back to our homestay at Lachen for lunch,& then started our journey to Lachung.

Day 4

Today we started our return trip.Having a nice breakfast at the homestay,we left for Yumthang Valley.Without doubt,it was one of the best scenic valleys in India. The road was in very poor condition,& all of us kept literally shifting everywhere on our seats. But the views were worth all the pain in the backs.

After taking plenty of photo,we went onwards towards Zero point. This spot is usually not included in the package cost, but the driver usually settles for a price of around Rs 3000 per car.

It was freezing cold, with chilled air raising the hairs on our body.Luckily we also experienced mild snowfall as well.
