Teesta river: On the way to Gangtok from Siliguri

Hello fellow travellers,

If you are planning to travel to Sikkim , please take a few minutes to go through this post & I guarantee you that you will avoid a lot of hiccups during your travel, giving you ample time to enjoy tension free & make your trip a memorable one.

TIP 1: Car trouble

Travelling through a place like Sikkim, you surely are going to spend an ample lot of your time on the roads in your car. Which brings us to the topic of selecting the most comfortable vehicle. If you have reached Sikkim by your own vehicle , you can skip this point, otherwise keep reading.

There are 3 main options of vehicle for you:

1. Bolero/Sumo 2. Xylo 3. Innova

If money is not a problem , go for Innova Cresta hands down. This will be the most comfortable companion for your trip. Since the number of available Innova cars is less because of greater demand, some agents might trick you into selecting Xylo or Bolero by using statements like "you can't travel to North in Innova" but don't fall for all these tricks. Keep your first preference for Innova, if you like to enjoy a safe & comfortable trip.

TIP 2: Hotel location

For most of us while travelling to Sikkim, our base station will be Gangtok. To enjoy Gangtok city to the maximum, always book a hotel nearer to the city centre. For Gangtok the city centre is the famous MG marg. When booking a hotel , narrow down the properties closest to MG marg & then select a hotel according to your budget.

TIP 3: Shopping

If your are travelling to Sikkim during winter season which extends from Nov till April , you definitely will be stocking some warm clothes & accessories. But if you want to keep your luggage light while arriving, its better to shop from Gangtok itself.

There are two major markets in Gangtok: MG marg & Lal bazar.

Both are just adjacent to each other so not to worry. If you follow my Tip 2 & book a hotel near the city centre , you can freely roam around both these market places stocking up all the warm clothes & accessories you would be requiring while your stay in Sikkim.
