Crescent of "Kovalam"

Tripoto

The Moon as it appears early in its first quarter when only a small arc-shaped section of the visible portion is illuminated by the Sun. This is known as a crescent. Kovalam is the very own Crescent Moon of earth and surprisingly on Earth.

Kovalam has three beaches separated by rocky outcroppings in its 17 km coastline, the three together form the famous crescent of the Kovalam beach. The world famous - Kovalam Beach is located in the area of Trivandrum city.

A casual fishing village transformed into a tourist destination when Regent Maharani of Travancore constructed her beach resort in the 1920s. No wonder, a woman can do wonders.

It was earlier famous for topless European women who used to throng there. It was the first topless beach in India. Hold your horses... readers, topless bathing is banned now.

Walking over a crescent-shaped alleyway or the only walkway connecting all the three beaches, with palm trees moving along with us, was no better than walking on an isle with guards escorting you till the throne. The hotel owners have marveled in softening the edges of their concrete buildings with brightly-coloured, fragrant flowers and each building has been designed so that the problems of being overlooked are minimised. The coolest thing about Kovalam is German Bakery, a beachfront bakery with ample of books to read, and an open terrace for yoga.
