Kerala, God's Own Country, is one of the most beautiful states of India. It is full of natural beauty including beaches, hills, backwaters, forests and many more and it makes Kerala is one of the most popular tourists places in India.
Among the beaches in Kerala, Kovalam is the first choice of any beach lover because of the beauty of the beach and the accessibility. I have personally visited Kovalam two times, and I have enjoyed the loved the place a lot.
About the Place
Kovalam is situated beside Arabian Sea, 18 KM from Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. Kovalam means Coconut Grove and as the area is full of coconut trees, the name came from there. Late 1920 after Halcyon Castle was built, Kovalam came in public attention and from 1930 it became one of the very famous tourist attractions.
How to Reach
As Kovalam is so close to the capital of Kerala, so it is easily accessible from any part of India and outside of India.
1. By Flight: Trivandrum International Airport.
2. by Train: Trivandrum Railway Station.
3. By Bus: Many private and government bus services are available from several cities.
4. By Road: One can surely drive to the place
Place to Visit
There are several awesome beaches in Kovalam along with a few other tourist attractions which one can explore when in Kovalam.
1. Light House Beach:
Light House beach is one of the very famous beaches in Kovalam. It is situated near the Kovalam Light House. The view of the sea from the beach is really beautiful.
2. Kovalam Beach:
This is most popular beach and you can see good crowds all through the days, specially in the evening. You can go inside the water on this beach. There are many water activities are there in the beach.
3. Samudra Beach:
Another beautiful beach in Kovalam is Smaadra beach. This beach is not very crowded and you can see the water bit greenish. However sea is bit rough in this beach so need to be careful.
4. Hawa Beach:
It is a small beach and a bit windy. Not very crowded and good place to see the sunset. Hawa beach is adjacent to Kovalam beach.
5. Kovalam Fish Market
You can visit the place in the early morning to see the very busy fishermen's activity. They export the fishes not only to Karala, but also to other places in India and outside of India.
6. Shopping at Kovalam Beach
You can find lots of shops near Kovalam Beaches and great place to shop many local items and art and crafts items.
Apart from this you can also plan to visit Neyyar Dam, Trviandrum Zoo, Karamana River and Vellayani Lake.
