I am written this experience almost after a year, so rates would differ now, however the journey still remains awesum :) We reached the Jammu airport in the morning and from there we went to Katra in a private taxi, which took us around 3 hours to reach our hotel Surya Palace (Now known as Hotel Vishal), we were at katra for the first time and we choose this hotel, the staff is very cordial and they have big rooms, u can also book a 2 bedroom kind of suit if u are a family of 4 or more....

Driving on NH-1, Grand Trunk road we reached Verinag (city near Katra), the highway was the narrowest highway I'd ever seen, all of a sudden heavy loaded trucks and lorries had stopped as a reason of roadblock which was confirmed from Border police that road is closed for 72hours due to a huge landslide, heavy rainfall, probability of a bridge collapsing just before the Jawahar Tunnel....

Having a local tour guide-cum-friend who offered to take us down these lanes and streets made the experience all the more enriching as she told us the history of these areas, of Crawling Lane, Katra Aluwhalia, showed us the forts that were built centuries ago, of which some remains still exist while the city around it has developed, and is now inhabited with small shops, food vendors and flourishing wholesale markets with jewellery, stainless steel bartans and more....
