This time we thought we’d explore the other side of kodaikanal. Knowing that there are no atms and fuel stations (no network too)after kodaikanal town, we filled our wallets and car. The place we thought of going was just 40-50 kms from kodai town, but it wasn’t a pleasant drive as the roads were bad. But when i looked through the car windows, was overwhelmed by the beauty of kodai. After 20 kms, we reached poombarai and thought of having a chai. It was chai with a view. Club India Resort in poombarai was supposed to host us. Went straight in, threw our bags and got into the car again. On our way, some local man asked a lift to manavannur. He introduced himself as Siva Anna. He told he’ll take us for trekking in a forest if we’re ready to pay. Adventures were always our weakness. In return we bought him a full bottle liquor. He asked me to drive as per his instructions. After a few kms, asked me to stop inside a forest look alike area. He told all of us to come with him. We thought it wasn’t a good idea and only three of us went with him. Others stayed in car and told they’d wait. Siva Anna was already drunk and was okay with anything.
He took us inside the forest, crossing boundaries. We walked for a while. He started telling stories. I was bored at first, but when i looked around it was so beautiful that i didn’t even want to walk but just lie there and feel the beauty around. It was so cold everywhere and the sun was about to set. The sun gave a reddish yellow colour to the forest which made it look more beautiful. We walked for almost half an hour. Then i asked siva anna to take us out for which he nodded and somehow got up and started walking back. Kodai is magic, said anna.
All seven of us knew this would happen. Let kodai amaze people with its magic forever
