Day 1

Chitkul is the last village on Indo-China border in Baspa Valley of Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh. It is located at a distance of 244 km from Shimla, the capital city of Himachal.

We (Two and a Half Himachali Humans) planned a road trip to Chitkul in the last Autumn. The journey began early in the morning from Rampur (approximately 120 km away from Chitkul). It was our second time in Kinnaur, so we knew where to stop on the way before taking the diversion to Sangla. The compulsory halt at Taranda Mata temple was followed by an exhilarating walk under the rocky roof.

At Karcham, leaving the main road, we crossed Satluj to the right, following a glimpse of the emrald Baspa, we rode uphill. The Fall (Season) was approaching the valley and snow-clad mountain peaks welcomed us with open arms. It is always a joy to see snow; I don’t know why!

Unfolding Mountains kept us spellbound. Slowly the snow cover descended down covering even the road. The security persons deputed there did warn us of the possible risks on further advancement, since it snowed just the yesternight. Mr CoolHead is cool in that way. After depositing the I-card, he applied accelerator determinedly. Thank God, we didn’t object, for it would have been a mistake!

What was the journey like? I fall short of words to describe... Magical…Divine…Out of the world….

I wish to share the joy that Chitkul filled our hearts with. Watch the video and tell me how you feel?
