Bidarakatte is small trekking spot in Tumkur district of Karnataka. The place is at a distance of around 60kms from Bangalore.
- Book the Bidarakatte trek through myecotrip.com which is a website of Karnataka Forest department. You have to book this trek as you cannot simply go and start the trek. The trek is through the forest (not that thick forest) bt still its under the forest department. Just a day before the trek call the number on the website and they will give you the details of the guide who will be there with you throughout the trek.
- the place is a typical village area so don't expect much shops and restaurants... So please carry some snacks and water with you...
- Also wear comfortable dress and shoes with good grip as most part of the trek is through rocks....
The trek is not that hard its of medium difficulty.....
So we went for the trek in dec.... I would suggest to go for this either during winter or post monsoon.... Summer would be too dry and you will be exhausted... Also pls try to be there for there at the starting point by 7 or else the sun will make you exhausted and spoil the fun.... We started from bangalore at around 5 in the morning and reached the location around 6:30 - 7.... Google maps will give you the direction....
We had called and confirmed with our guide Muthu the previous day itself.... We called him once we reached there and he came by.... We entered the details in the register and then began the trek...... As it was winter the wind was so cool.... After about half an hour we reached the top of one rock and on the top of that rock there was a lake.... Its so beautiful.... We took some pictures and started tge trek again.....
Then we went forward through the forest and then again through the rocks to reach the top of another hill... The view from there is amazing.... There were the remains of a temple there..... Its just a small shrine but its beautiful and from there you can see the other side of Savandurga hill.... Savandurga is a famour trek and difficult one but this one is a pretty relaxing one and you can also have adifferent view of Savandurga..... We took some pictures from over there.... There is a lengthy wall of rocks on the back side.... On the other side of the wall you can see steps downwards carved on the rock which goes into the deep forest.... The guide told us that Kempegowda used these steps to go to the other side of the forest.... Then again we started to go forward.... Then we reached the top of the hill..... There also we could see the wall stretcg made of rocks which marked the boundary of the empire of Kempegowda.... Also there is a small pond on here too.... There is a doorway in between the walls.... The doorway doesnt has a door now.... The guide told us that the door which used to be there was made of rock..... Also there used to be a watchpoint on the top... Now we can only see the remains of that.... The view from the top is really beautiful and the cool breeze will relax you....The guide was explaining everything in Kannada so this is the maximum information we understood as we didnt know Kannada..... Bt anyway Muthu was really helpful and knowledgeable.... Then after taking few pics from there we started our return journey..... After reaching down the guide took us to a lake nearby the entrance.... The water of the lake is soo green..... There is a pedalling boating available there at a charge of some 40 rs or something on weekends... We went on a weekday so couldn't go for boating( but we went for boating during our Savandurga trek which is near only)..... Dear bangaloreans go for this one day getaway and breathe some fresh air and feel relaxed.... Its worth it..... Guide contact: Muthu - 89718 36844 ..... Please contact Muthu if you need any help(note that he knows only Kannada).... Have a great trip.....
