An airport full of serpentine queues....no app based vehicle...a cab driver who knows the history of each building we pass by.....of narrow roads without a single pothole....a place where there is no office time....a place which is in continuous vacation mode....WELCOME TO GOA
.......we land up at our resort in Benaulim, our base in South Goa..
........getting the feel.....
.........we settle down in the rooms....
........a tired and lazy dinner across the road....
.......at Gigi Park restaurant..karoke and dance...
........strangely this place is full of Russian influence...the guests, even in the menu..
........the rustic ambience.. ....the day I lost my earring....
....a very wise decision we made........now thats our friend for Goa....a car on rent...OUR car on rent.... and with GPS, as they show in the Ad for Google maps....(hey they stole our idea)...AND.....freedom to go east or west....north or south...
......we head north to Baga....quite a crowd...the same kind of crowd of youngsters- sent- on- vacation- by- office, we met on the plane, ....playing dumb charades...only to be chastened by the Captain's warning of inclement weather ahead....fasten your seat belts please...
........lots of action for them here...para gliding, kayaking, motor sailing........but we chose to relax....
..........on the sun loungers ...when not in the waters..But if you are in the mood for crowds, loud music and lots of action, then...the north beaches, especially Baga Beach is what you should head for....
......chicken cafreal, king fish, prawn curry and rice...BUT disappointed...our search for authentic Goan cuisine thwarted....no surprise as all the boys and the cook are from Bengal...no wonder there was a sense of familiarity in taste....they work in Goa and up in the hills when Goa reels under the monsoons....But if you walk down Baga beach to the other end, you will find better Restaurants, more authentic Goa stuff...
..........away from the madness of Baga...we land up at Ashwam Beach, further north...
...the quiet and raw beauty of Goa sand and sea...
....of soft sand that cushions your feet and a beach that says "love me".............loungers , the sea and sand....
......out to check out local eating joints at Benaulim Beach...@ johncy restaurant..
....total immersion in all things Goanese......the place, the people, the music, the moves, the food....
......happiness is..live music, waiting to jive and waiting for the fish to grill....
....living it up...the Goan way.....what better way to vacation in Goa..."love you Goa" rhythms and moves....
...the raw Surmai fish we chose.... comes grilled after ages....thats how it should be ...in Goa......laze the moments....raise the appetite...we are famished when it hits our table....
......next morning....we pack our bags and off we head...to check out the beaches of the south, this time..
...driving down past quaint cottages.........past typical houses that dot the countryside.....
........shutter speed images of beautiful homes....
....the forests of the western ghats...
.......looping from one range to another in the far distance....
...the landmark shops flaunting their colorful beachwear....we are near the beach...OUR GPS tells us..
..into Palolem beach....of parking woes...
...Palolem Beach.....where relaxation is seious business.....amongst the lazy beauty of the sands and waves....
...we hit the sun loungers under the shades...and watch a sunbather burning like a lobster on the sands.....some endurance that... .some serious thought should go into planning beach wardrobe for this beach...of swim suits, sarongs and sun lotions...
....lying on the lounger....under the coconut tree...this life could go on and on or stop right there..
.....of hats and shades and waiting for the prawn curry rice...
..........a sight I could freeze forever...moments of lazy content and inertia of happiness....South beaches are for those in the mood for pristine beautiful beach moments... Ciarans also has accomodation, high end...besides the restaurant..
....waiting for our crab meat, chicken xacutti and ...yes again....prawn curry rice...and dessert Bebinca...and this time we were not disappointed....at all...
...the beer glasses that wouldn't stop toppling over .... #defycentreofgravitydesign or #business strategy.......oh Goa!...tipsy Goa..
....our last night...again at Benaulim Beach...we sit at Pedros, see the sedate crowd..the karoke.....and slip out quietly like truant children bunking a class in full swing.......in search of something more substantial ....for memories to make...
....we approach the seafront....Rogers, here we come.....
.....of fairytale canopies.....of candle light spills....of hookahs spewing flavours..
...we hit the tables where the waves gently beckon you to stay on in Goa.........all along the seafront...barely 10 yards from the waves splash.....
....with our feet buried in the sand....yeh zindagi hei..........yahayhyah coco jambo yahyahyah...put me up,put me down/ take my heart, put my feet back on the ground... sound bytes....which I will now always associate with Goa
..........ends with sizzling seafood sizzlers......put me up, take my heart....Goa!
Its the music, the food, the wave splash, the sun, the loungers, the sarongs....away from the mundane...total destress.....the intangibles of Goa
I am sure , I am not the first to think of....quitting everything, putting my life savings in running a beach restaurant and settling down in Goa....!!
