It’s been a long time I have not posted anything about my journey life. Recent time I had been to Goa, Shimla and manali, Chikamaglur since many of them are aware of these places very well so i didn’t post anything about these places.
Recently we visited Tyavarekoppa Lion & Tiger Safari and Sakrebyle Elephant Camp Shimoga.
We started from Bangalore around 4am and reached Tyavarekoppa Lion & Tiger Safari at 10 am and directly went to Safari. This is neither a zoo experience nor a safari experience. There are lots of tigers and leopards but there were only two lions and it looked like they had not had food for several days. The safari price is reasonable but the safari is not very long, so we felt it was not worth for money.
This place also has a zoo and again it is not that big and attractive. Wish the authorities improve this place so that it is a value for money.
Later we went to the Sakrebyle Elephant Camp (Jungle Lodge). It is a forest camp for captive elephants in Karnataka. Situated at a distance of 14 km from Shimoga on the Shimoga-Thirthahalli Road, it is considered to be the best camp for training elephants in the state. The camp is maintained by the Karnataka Forest Department. The Sakrebyle Elephant Camp attracts wildlife fans and tourists alike. It is one of those ecotourism centers in Karnataka that offers general people an opportunity to look at the huge tuskers from close quarters. That you can find here many elephants being trained by training professionals. Elephant from the adjoining forests bathe at this spot before they re-enter their forest dwelling. Every morning these majestic creatures waddle down to waters and after playfully cleansed their bodies and satiated their thirst, they leave the waters before the rays of the sun get stronger. They are off to deal with their day's routine only to return the following day. To catch a glimpse of these mammoths play in the water, get there before 8 am. Total they are 22 tuskers namely Ranga (around 50 age) he is little wild compared to others(said by mahout), tusker(he is don of all tuskers) he is used to train other captive elephants and rest all are Bhaskara, Geetha, Kunthi, Kiran, Parvathi, Amaravati, Raghavendra and so many.
After visiting Camp I got to know much behavior and life history of elephants.
I recommend once in life everyone have to visit Sakrebyle Elephant Camp.
