Kodachadri is one of the most beautiful places in all of Karnataka. Kodachadri mountains and peaks are considered as the natural heritage. This is located in Shimoga district of Karnataka and considered as one of the 10 highest mountain peaks in Karnataka. This is at an elevation of 1300 m above the sea level.

You can reach the peak in two ways. One way is by jeep and another way is by trekking. The jeep ride gives you a great off-roading experience which is adventurous. I wanted to enjoy the beauty of the nature so decided to trek to the peak. I searched in social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and also googled of there are any organisation or groups that conduct trekking. I came across few groups but Karnataka Hikes looked good. I was alone when I started the trek but before we reach the summit everyone who was with me had become my friends. I really appreciate the trek leaders for their passion. We stayed in a home stay. There are few home stays that you can check in google. There are two ways for trekking either you can take a jeep till half way and then trek the rest or you can start from the beginning.

If you plan for entire trek then you might have to walk through a dense forest and cross several water streams. You have to cross one falls called the Hidlumane Falls. If you go in monsoon then you will have memorable experience crossing the falls. Fortunately, we went during monsoon. While crossing the falls we could sense the force of the water from the falls. Along the way you will encounter many different species of insects and animals. If lucky maybe you'll see some interesting creatures too. The half of the trek ends after you cross the falls and reach Shankar Peetham. Here, you'll see lot of jeeps. If you are tired and can't continue the trek then you can go back through jeep. But I prefer you push yourself and reach the peak because it's worth every sweat and pain.

The final trek is around 5kms which leads to the Peetham. It is an amazing part of the trek. The trek is little tough if you have trekked from the bottom. But when you reach the peak the satisfaction you get is simply amazing.

If you look in the google you will find a fascinating facts about Kodachadri. I prefer you understand the history of Kodachadri and then trek. This is not the first trek I have been to but it is definitely one of those treks that I will remember.

I prefer to take jeep while coming back because in that way you'll experience both trek and a good jeep ride.

Note: In any case if you are thinking about going to the peak with your own vehicle because you have a SUV , please don't try that

Places to visit: Sunset point, Hidlumane falls, Shankara Peetham.
