HIDDEN GEM OF NORTH BENGAL
Love for Nature and breath-taking views of the mighty mountains and gushing rivers always attracts me to offbeat places. Tinchuley is not over crowded with Tourists. At the same time it is equally beautiful. I think its a hidden gems of a North Bengal. Tinchuley, a little hamlet in Darjeeling district, surrounded by a beautiful view of the Himalayan range and river swiftly flowing through. It is the perfect example of Off-beat destination in North Bengal. Tinchuley means "Three Ovens", as the three hills surrounding the village looks like chullah when viewed from far.
How to reach :
By Road: The nearest city is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) / Siliguri. From NJP to Tinchuley is a distance of 73 Km through NH10. One can make a day trip to the little hamlet while visiting Darjeeling (32 Km) or Kalimpong (35 Km).
By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra. One would need to travel 77 Km from Bagdogra by road to reach the village.
Where to stay at Tinchuley :
Families in the village are trying to develop an organic village model, which would promote tourism in the area. Few village houses have been converted to guesthouses and home stays and are already functional.
Best time to Visit Tinchuley :
The village have pleasant weather mostly all year long. However, during the summer months of May - June, The temperature remains around 18 degree to 22 degree. October - April, the skies are clear and the visibility of the mountain peaks is high. If you want to enjoy the cold and winter in the hamlet, November - February is the time for you.
Things to do at Tinchuley :
Nirmal's Orange Orchard is a must-visit. one can visit the factory and have a look at how juices, pickles, marmalades are made and packed. The Tinchuley Monastery : It is said that a Lama meditated for 17 years here. Tea estates : One can visit the tea gardens and experience tea plucking and processing in a factory. Tinchuley viewpoint : For a mesmerizing view of the Kanchenjunga and the other Himalayan peaks at Sunset or sunrise, this is a must-visit while in Tinchuley. One needs to hike for 20 min and reach Gumbadara, a viewpoint to watch the river Rangeet and part of Sikkim. There are several large rocks that are used as a training ground for rock climbers. One can also explore the caves present here. Walk through the villages and forests and explore at one's own pace. Lover's Viewpoint. This is on the Peshok road and can see the confluence of the rivers Teesta and Rangeet.
If one wants to experience the tranquility of nature, tea gardens, orange orchards, long walks through the forest, or by the river, this is the best place they can be. The little hamlet offers a treat to mind, body, and soul, just what a city dweller would need.
