Sabarmati Ashram, A walk by the golden river of Ahmedabad in pictures

Though I have never been a great fan of Mahatma Gandhi or his non violence movement or ideals, I decided to pay a visit to the famed Sabarmati Ashram which used to be the center of the freedom movement & Gandhian activities in the early 1930's in Ahmedabad, taking some time out from my work schedule in the late evening. It is a beautiful place situated approx 4 miles from the town hall on the Ashram road at the banks of river Sabarmati. The ashram is surrounded by a lush green garden, a home to squirrels and parrots playing around merrily in the landscape. The Ashram houses the cottages of Acharya Vinoba Bhave, Gandhiji's visiting room and home apart from a museum which displays pictures, letters from Gandhi to various important people, chronological depiction of events in Mahatma's life, art, paintings and objects used by the Mahatma in his lifetime. It's over all a good very good place for history enthusiasts, students, tourists and visitors who are looking for a peaceful evening walk across the river banks. And finally a great place to know about the man whose policies and decisions might be debated and found controversial till date, but who was definitely the architect of a mass movement against the British colonial rule and one of the great contributors to the Indian freedom movement as a whole. Visit the place with a neutral mind and enjoy the natural ambience and environment.
