Alighting from the bus at the city bus stand we walked into the tourist information center located in the state bus stand complex itself. They set everything for us for the next 4 days. From giving us a homestay within our budget to a taxi to take us around the local tourist spots and finally a guide for our trek.
The first 3 days were spent visiting local tourist spots which included
* Rajas seat, where if you go during the monsoon you just get a view of the clouds.
* Abbey falls where you can walk up to the falls and click pictures from a bridge.
* Off road jeep ride to Mandalpatti.
* Visit to Talacauvery to see the temple and walk up the peak to witness an amazing view of the hills and valleys
* Head towards Kushalnagara and experience first hand the Tibetan settlement and their Golden temple. See how their schooling is done, eat local food
* Walk into Nisargadhama on the way back. Experience being in the midst of nature,sit by the flowing river.
NISHANI MOTTE TREK:
Finally on the last day we venture into the hills. We reached the bus stand where our guide was waiting for us. We took a local bus to Gallibeedu where the guide asked us to get down and took us on a long walk through the fields until we reached the base of the trek.
The trek starts slow, which us covering long distances but without any steep climb. We walked for around 2 hours through forests, dense bushes and clean open land.
Fighting leeches, stopping for breaks every now and then to check if any of us were bit or bleeding, putting dettol on our feet to keep them away, was the toughest part of the trek!
We spotted few snakes, wild elephant footprints and the poop of wild bears when we were walking through the jungle. There is no regular path marked and if you were to try this without a guide there is a 90% chance you will get lost.
After about 4 hours of walk through hills and valley we finally came to the last stretch where you could see the peak. We were enveloped by dense jungle for most part of the trek. It was refreshing to be able to see the sky for the last stretch.
Our guide asked us if we wanted to reach the peak using a steep shortcut or go around it gradually. We chose gradually and even then the final stretch was tough as the climb was gradually steep!
We finally made it after 5 hours from when we first began. We sat at the peak for sometime taking in the view and resting our feet. Soon we began our descent. It didn't take us that much time and he got us down through another path where we eventually reached a road and cut short of walk in the jungle.
By 3 in the noon we were at one of the small houses of a villager for lunch. After having a filling simple meal cooked by the locals, we then headed back towards the bus stand where we had to wait for almost half an hour before we realized the bus was to come only after 2 hours.
We managed to get an auto with the help of our guide and we were finally back to Coorg by 5 in the evening. Tired, exhausted, couldn't feel our legs but the thrill of having done this trek made is smile through it all.
