Day 713

“Travelling - it leaves you speechless and then turns you into a storyteller” said by IBN Battuta. This inspired me to pen down my travel experiences of the Europe trip. My friend and I visited Europe in the first week of September and we started planning in the first week of August. We checked quite a few itineraries including backpacking ones which looked expensive plus did not cover a lot of things. So we decided to plan it ourself.

We booked the flight tickets checking which is the cheaper destination and applied for the visa. The scariest thing to us was receiving our visa 2 days before the travel journey. Before 2 days of the trip we were scared if our visa would arrive on time or not and will we make it. Luckily we received our visa just on time and we started with last minute shopping, arranging forex and packing bags. We did the visa process on our own without taking help of the agents -we did learn a lot in the bargain (I will be posting my next article on cheap flight tickets and visa process) which will help others and let them not face the situation which I went through.

We started from the city of dreams -MUMBAI to the city known for its imperial palaces - Vienna (Austria).

We landed Vienna airport and took a local train to reach the city center and then again a local train to reach our hostel. Since we were only 2 of us and wanted all our accommodations in city center we preferred booking hostels rather than airbnb’s and this was the best decision ever. The hostels were like hotels and we made so many friends friends across the globe.

We checked in at the hostel -Wombats at the Naschmarket and then started exploring the city by walk. We checked out the Naschmarket area and nearby places.

Day 698

Next day morning all fresh, we started with visiting the beautiful palaces. We took a full day travel pass which included 24 hrs unlimited transportation which cost us around 8€ each. This did not include any tickets to the museum.

We started at 7.00 am with the beautiful Schonbrunn palace - we were totally mesmerised by the view. We could have spent the whole day over there but we had to come back to the hostel as there was a free walking tour at 10.30 am. We joined the free walking tour and checked out the Albertinaplatz,Kartner Straddle, St. Stephens Cathedral. Later we visited the imperial Hofburg Palace . After spending a good time at the Hogburg palace, we decided to do some shopping at the city center , have lunch and then proceed to another palace - Belvedere palace.

After visiting three palaces, we understood the reason for Vienna to be known for its imperial palaces. It is definitely the most beautiful city.

After the whole tiring day, we had to take our night bus to Budapest and the second day of the trip we missed our bus - we were two girls standing at the bus station not knowing what next ,luckily we booked the next bus through the app and here we go.

Day 683

Vienna to Budapest is a 3 hour journey and we reached Budapest totally exhausted quite late in the night. We checked in into our hostel and slept waiting for the next day.

The hostel had a nice spread of paid breakfast which was worth the penny. After having a scrumptious breakfast we decided to explore the Danube Promenade ,Buda Castle ,Fisherman’s Bastion,Matthias church and the Buda tower. There is a small lane - not seen by tourist which has nice autumn feels - we spot a open cafe and decided to spend the evening over there.

Day 668

On our way from Vienna to Budapest a fellow traveller suggested us to check out Szentendre which is a Hungarian town on the Danube river. It is known for its baroque architecture, churches, colourful houses and cobbled streets. We checked out some of the day packages being offered but we found out that they were expensive, so we decided to visit on our own. You can visit by boat or a train. We decided to go by train and come back to the city by boat. An important point is you take the HEV train from Batthyány Ter which is on the red metro line and there are separate tickets for this line.

This is indeed a colourful town to be wandered on the foot covering white trimmed buildings painted in pastel colours. There are a lot of open restaurants and you can try the Goulash - soup made of meat and vegetables with paprika and other spices, Lángos - a traditional Hungarian fried dough, gelato at Levendula.

Coming back to the city by the boat ride was an amazing 1 hour journey. It dropped us at the Parliament and yes we decided to explore the Parliament.

Visiting Budapest and not going to the ruin bars, so we went to Szimpla Kert and we did enjoy a lot.

Day 653

We kept this as a chilled day for us with only 2 activities planned for the day - cave crawling and sparty.

You need to book the tickets for both activities at least 1-2 days in advance.

Cave crawling - this activity my friend wanted to do and I was totally against it but still we went and had a gala time over there. If you did not know budapest is called the capital of caves and is the only capital which has caves of a significant size underneath its buildings. It was 2.5 hour small group tour. We had to climb across rocks and crawl through small passages.

Sparty - the unique bath party which happens on Saturday at Szechenyi spa and baths - the most exclusive party having 3D building projections and natural thermal baths.

Day 638

In the morning we went to Citadella - it is the fortification on the top of Gellert Hill. You get to see beautiful panaroma views of the city.

This was our last day in Budapest and we decided to go for shopping - there are multiple chain outlets and the collection is to die for.

We also did a lot of local shopping including paprika, traditional dolls, souvenirs for friends and family.

Our trip to Budapest was over and we boarded a night bus to Prague.

Day 623

The bus journey is 6.5 hours and we arrived Prague in the morning at 6.00 am.We went to our hostel but could check in only at 11.00 am so we left our luggage and went to explore Prague. Our hostel was centrally located at the old town - the old town square was just a minute walk away. We checked the Astronomical Clock - since we were tired we were just near the old town square and must have seen the clock - 3 times before we checked in to the hostel. To say at 10 o clock there was humongous rush to see the clock as compared to morning 8 o clock.

Later we checked in to the hostel, got ready and visited the Charles bridge, St.Vitus Cathedral and Jewish Quarter.

Later in the night we visited the famous pubs of Prague.

Day 608

If you are in Prague - trying the Trdelnik is the best thing to do. We were in love with it and our favourite was the one with fresh strawberries in it.

We again went to Charles bridge to click some pictures and later proceeded to the Prague Castle. There are nice vegan options in Prague and do try having vegan food in Prague. After the castle we checked out the Lennon wall, the narrowest street of Prague and yes I did fit in inside.

In the night we went to Karlovy Lazne - which is the largest club in Prague and has 5 floors.

We tried the famous absinthe along with some local food.

Day 593

This was our last day in Prague and we decided to explore the Wencelas square,National Museum,Municipal House and Powder Tower.

We went for some souvenir shopping on the street which is between old town and Wencelas Sqaure.

Then we took a train journey to our next destination- Berlin. A train journey is a must in Europe - it is a little expensive than the bus rides but worth it.

Day 578

So a day prior we booked tickets to Dresden -this is a capital of German state -Saxony.We took a 3 hour bus ride from Berlin and reached Dresden. Over there we took a day pass and went to Saxon Switzerland National Park - here you get to visit Bastei bridge, hike stunning trails and climb gorgeous rock formations.

After the hike we came back to Dresden and explored the beautiful city. We even got to see the different shades of sky which left us mesmerised. We did not want to leave Dresden but had a bus ride back to Berlin.

Day 563

We arrived back at Berlin at around 1.30 am and was dead tired. We decided to rest and only go out late afternoon - so we explored the Bradenburg Gate,TV Tower Berlin, Berliner Dom, Checkpoint Charlie, Reichstag, Berlin Wall, Charlottenburg Palace and park.

Later we had dinner at the Vapaino - where you will find amazing Italian food

In Germany, do try their beers,Currywurst and the Döner - some places also have vegetarian options.

Day 548

This day was dedicated to shopping - there’s a place outside Berlin which is known as Designer Outlet - if you love high end clothing with a side of bargains, this outlet mall is a must. You will find all possible stores and you don’t realise how the day is over. We wanted to visit Potsdam but we could not. So we came to Berlin and went again for shopping at Primark - you get such cute and lovely stuff at cheap rates.

Then we visited the east side gallery and spent our night over there.

Day 533

The last day of Berlin and we went to Berghain - this is the most exclusive nightclub and we got rejected. It is known for being incredible hard to get into.

After being rejected we went to the traditional beer garden. This was a roof top garden offering city views and a chilled atmosphere.

We gulped down mugs of beer to visit Mauerpark which is a public linear park to be visited specially on sundays as there is a flea market and amazing performances by various artist. The performances are just vow.

Later on, we rushed to take our night bus from Berlin to Amsterdam.

Day 518

Our last city on the list before we complete our Europe trip was Amsterdam.

We started exploring with the Vondelpark, then going to the Dam Sqaure. We had our free walking tour where we explored the lanes of Amsterdam. You get amazing food options including vegan food. Do try the famous fries, stroopwaffle,Dutch pancakes and explore the coffee shops. We visited the Anne Frank house.

In the night we took the red light district tour.

Day 503

The next day started with a visit to A’DAM Lookout which is the observation deck with an unrivalled Panaromic view.

You reach the central station and there is a free ferry to reach the Adam lookout.

We checked the swing over the edge but did not find it worth. We enjoyed the city views and later took a canal cruise to Heineken experience.

Heineken experience was truly an amazing experience and not to be missed - you understand the history, the processes and the way it is presented with modern art technology. You get 2 glasses of beer too :)

How can one miss going to the coffee shops so we did go and tried some stuff out there.

Day 488

This was our last day so we kept it for exploring the beautiful museums - we went to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum. Later we visited the Bloemenmarkt - which is the floating flower market.

Before leaving we had fries and the pancakes in Amsterdam for the very last time and with memories filled in we checked out of the amazing hostel and proceeded to the airport to fly back to Mumbai.
