As someone who has her native place in Goa, I have travelled there more than any destination I can think of. However, my recent visits in North Goa remind me of why I personally still prefer the quiet beaches of South Goa over the crowded ones in North. The secluded and pristine beaches here, are one of the main reasons why a lot of tourists these days prefer travelling to the South. Things to do
Agonda is the place to be, for your dream sun and sand holiday. However, if you are keen on exploring the nearby areas outside of your stay, then it also offers a lot of options to do so. Some of the popular activities here include dolphin rides offered by local fishermen, hiking on the nearby hillocks and enrolling in Yoga and meditation classes offered by the nearby wellness centres.
For experiencing the night life, Palolem beach is just a 15-minute drive from Agonda. The popular beach of Palolem offers many opportunities for visitors to party through the night. Another popular option nearby is the Butterfly beach which is a boat ride away from Palolem and a perfect spot for nature lovers.
Cost
A twin sharing beach hut costs ₹1500 per night excluding taxes and meals.
How to reach:
By Air: Dabolim Airport is located at a distance of about 60 kms from the Agonda beach. This airport is connected by regular flights from all domestic and international locations.
By Train: The nearest railway station is at Canacona, about 11 kms away. However most main train services stop at the popular Margao station which is 36 kms away from the beach.
By Road: A road trip to Goa offers you a chance to get scenic views along the way. If you are travelling by public transport, then there are state owned and private buses from most major cities in India depending on your current location. These buses mainly help you to reach Margao bus stand, from where there are regular buses which depart to the Canacona bus stand and Agonda beach. A more convenient though slightly expensive option is to hire a private taxi to reach Agonda.
Getting around
The best option to explore this area is to hire a motorbike or a car with tariffs starting as low as Rs. 300 per day. You can also hire a local auto to travel to nearby locations, however the tariffs here are not fixed and hence you will need to bargain hard for fares. You can always check with the host for approximate fares depending on your destination.
