Day 10

24-06-2019 - 26-06-2019

Day 11 & 12

So the day finally came when we were suppose to leave the roads leading to Leh and leave for Spiti Valley. So we got up early in the morning as we were suppose to go to Kaza from Jispa which was which was not far in terms of distance to cover hardly 200kms but it was about the time taken to cover that distance. But destiny had something else planned for us as the roads leading to Kaza was not open as we came to know about it from the locals since the road that deviates from Gramphu post Keylong. Post listening to this news the group was kinda taken back as we all were looking forward to go to Kaza and Spiti valley. But weather and the road conditions is something that no can control and we didn't want to take any risk as well so the group unanimously agreed of skipping going to Kaza and go to Manali and stay there for a day or two. So after having our breakfast we started for Manali for which we had to go through Keylong, Tiang and Rohtang Pass. First stop we took was at Keylong as one of the riders bike needed minor fixes once that was done we started our journey for Manali. We reached Rohtang pass after 4 hours post starting from Jispa,  the road leading to Rohtang was not so smooth as the roads was broken at many places due to accumulation of heavy snowfall as a result of which a lot many places still had a lot of snow which was not there when I was there here the last time in 2017. The road that leads to Kaza deviates from Gramphu post Tiang was broken which the Border Road Organization was working round the clock to get it back online as lot of people relied on that road. Rohtang this year was not same as what it was in 2017 throughout the roads leading to it had snow thickened walls throughout and at the main pass there was snow wall measuring up to 15-20ft in height and we had that constant fear in our mind that hope the wall doesn't fall on us. The actual had less crowd this time thanks to the amount of snow that had accumulated at the pass,  but the moment we came a bit ahead of the pass we saw missing crowd as if it was a fish market and as long with the crowd we could see the trash in the form of plastic,  liquor bottles and corn spread thrown on the road. Somehow we passed that fish market and started our downhill drive which was treacherous all thanks to the terrain which was challenging as it was slippery,  pot hole ridden and not to forget where there are people there are cars accompanied by traffic jams. So somehow we reached the base of Rohtang pass and it started raining hardly half an hour after reaching the base which later on intensified and continued till we reached our hotel in Old Manali which in fact continued for the next two days which kinda dampened our day stay in Manali the only time it stopped was only in the night time.
