How to Manage Leh-Manali Roadtrip by Taking Only a Week’s Off

We all want to take on the legendary Leh-Manali Roadtrip but with our corporate jobs we hardly have any time to take on this epic Himalayan Roadtrip. After going on this roadtrip multiple type I have a perfect itinerary for you to complete this Roadtrip after taking only a week’s off, sounds unbelievable? No its not. You will have to start on Friday night of week 1 and you will return by Sunday night of week 2. So let me begin with this itinerary

Friday (Night): [DELHI to MANALI] So you will have to start on Friday night from Delhi. Even if you leave early morning (3 or 4 AM in Morning) you can do the Delhi to Manali stretch in 12 hours very easily considering the highway to be in good condition. (540 KMs, Journey time: 12 Hours)

Saturday: [MANALI] You can reach Manali by noon and rest up, for the rest of the day. If you want you can explore Manali, but it is recommended you just rest yourself for the further journey.

Sunday: [MANALI TO SARCHU] Leave early morning today as you will have to cross Rohtang pass and it is always crowded with tourist and you can get stuck for Hours in jams at Gulaba Checkpoint, so try and leave early morning around 5:00 AM. Keep stopping at picturesque points i.e Khoksar, Sissu, Jispa, Deepak Tal, Suraj Tal and Barlacha La before finally reaching Sarchu. (230 KMs, Journey time: 9 Hours)

Monday: [SARCHU TO LEH] This is going to be a day oh high passes, you will cover three high passes on this day, Nakee La, Lachung La and Taglang La. You will also go through Gata Loops and captivating Moore plains. In order to save on time you can visit Thiksey Monastery and Shey Palace while entering Leh. (260 KMs, Journey time: 10 Hours)

Tuesday: [LEH LOCAL] You can cover all the local attractions of Leh on this day. You can start with Leh Palace & Tsemo Castle, Hall of Fame, Sindhu Ghaat, Sangam (Confluence of Sangam and Zanskar), Zorawar Fort, Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill (You can avoid it if you want), Shanti Stupa(You can watch the evening sunset from here).

Wednesday: [LEH to HUNDER] Today is the day you will visit world’s highest motorable pass, Khardung La. After crossing the Pass, you will get some jawdropping sights and it will make you stop your vehicle every now and then. You can visit Diskit Monastery, Diskit Budha and double humped Camel rides in the sand dunes of Nubra Valley. (140 KMs, Journey time: 7` Hours)

Thursday: [HUNDER to PANGONG via Shyok] Leave early today as you will directly go to famous Pangong Lake today via Shyok valley. (190 KMs, Journey time: 8 Hours)

Friday: [PANGONG to SARCHU]: This is the day when you start your return journey via Chang la, which is actually the world’s second highest pass. You will meet at Kharu on the Manali-Leh Highway and continue your journey to Sarchu. (350 KMs, Journey time: 10 Hours)

Saturday: [SARCHU to MANALI] You can take the same route back to Manali and Stay overnight at Manali. (230 KMs, Journey time: 9 Hours)

Sunday: [MANALI to DELHI] You can drive all day and reach Delhi after completing your dream, Leh-Manali Roadtrip. (540 KMs, Journey time: 12 Hours)
