Warangal

The city of Warangal is about 144 kilometers from Hyderabad. A city which has a rich heritage and history. A city which is a silent testimony to the grandeur of a bygone era. Warangal was the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty which ruled over the region between 1175 to 1324 CE and included the only woman ruler in Andhra Pradesh Rani Rudrama Devi. Today the city is home to some of the most precious heritage structures of the country. The city is home to grand monuments that include forts, temples and impressive gateways and arches. Some of the places that one should not miss when in Warangal are the ruins of Warangal Fort, the Shiva temple which is also known as the thousand pillared temple, Ramappa temple which is sheer poetry in stone and an ode to the artistic talents of the people during the Kakatiya dynasty. A weekend trip to Warangal is sure to take one back in time to a time when life was more sedate and serene and people had time to appreciate the beauty of nature at leisure.

Nagarjunasagar

Nagarjunasagar situated about 160 kilometers from the bustling city of Hyderabad and its lush green environs are an ideal getaway from the city. One of the most visited and famous places in Nagarjunasagar is the Nagarjunasagar Dam. The dam is known to be the largest masonry dam in the world and stretches to a width of 1.6 kilometers and rises to a height of 490 feet. The dam has the capacity to store 11,472 cubic. The dam is a much visited site and is also a great place to enjoy some breathtaking views of the green countryside around it. Another place to head out to for a tranquil time in Nagarjunasagar is the Ethipothala waterfalls which are situated about 11 kilometers from the city center. The falls cascade from a height of about 21 meters against the background of some enchanting panoramic views of cliffs and green pastures. About 57 kilometers from Nagarjunasagar is a wildlife sanctuary which spreads over 3568 square kilometers. The sanctuary is home to varied wildlife including tigers, Langurs, Pythons, Macaques, etc. The place is a haven for nature and wildlife lovers.

Karimnagar

Karimnagar is a place that has an old world charm and is sure to enchant one with its simplicity as well as grand heritage. Situated at about 160 kilometers from Hyderabad, Karimnagar is indeed a revelation, a place with many hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. One of the sights that is sure to captivate one is that of the Elgandal fort that stands silently and majestically amidst palm groves, a silent ode to the grandeur of a bygone era. One of the most interesting facts of the fort are the minars which swing from side to side when shaken, an enduring architectural marvel. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated at about 34 kilometers from Karimnagar. The place is famous as the Benares of South India.
