Visiting the Andaman Islands gives you the pleasure of seeing the beautiful clear seas, the beautiful beaches and the thrilling views of the underwater and water sports. I am here to give you a brief journey to this amazing place from my recent trip. We were a group of 45 girls moving through India, all strangers to each other. We took the plane to Port Blair from our respective cities.
After check-in at the hotel, headed directly to Chidiyatapu Beach (Munda Pahar), which is about 17 to 20 km by road. Well known for its spectacular view of the seaside sunset, but we were disappointed, as it was a very cloudy day. The bark in the photo is as picturesque as it appears, it is also the home of the sea kraits, and one needs to be very careful. Upon our way, back to the hotel we stopped at the local teashop that also had a beautiful view to offer for some refreshments.
Started the day early today by taking a ferry from Port Blair to Havelock Island. The ferry was completely closed and air-conditioned. Although the ride was stimulating, many peeps got seasick. Since ferry is the primary mode of transport from one island to another, it is advisable to keep your seasickness medicines handy throughout.
If you are a person, who would be interested in short treks, Elephanta Beach trek which covers a distance of 2 km. The localities and many who completed the trek would suggest completing the trek bare feet. However, some of us were comfortable with shoes itself. The entire trek distance is completely sludgy and slippery. Suggest avoiding wearing white or any lighter color shoes.
The end of the trek reaches to Elephanta Beach. This beach is clean, you could swim here, and it has various watersports like Jetski, Banana Boat, and other boat rides as well which you can use as an alternate to come back if you choose not to trek back.
The third day was all about chilling at the beach. Our stay at Havelock was at Symphony Palm Resort. This place was surrounded with many restaurants and small cafes. We were advised to try restaurant Anju Coco and the food was delicious here. We went to Radhanagar Beach right after lunch. This beach was perfect to play games and at the shore with the friends. Spent almost 3 hours here. Definitely a day to remember.
On the fourth day, we took the ferry from Havelock to Neil. We stayed at Summer Sand Beach Resort at Neil and the hospitality and accommodation was terrific. We went for Scuba Diving and snorkeling at Bharatpur Beach. The view is amazing and the water so clear. There were beautiful corals reefs and fishes that are very rare otherwise. If you plan a trip to Andaman, you should definitely go scuba diving. Lakshmanpur beach-1 also has a good view for sunset.
At Sitapur beach, many witnessed the stunning sunrise, while some of us had to miss it because the scuba was on this morning. We visited the Natural Coral Bridge in the evening. This place is located few miles away from the Lakshmanpur Beach 2 at the Neil Island. This is a magnificent tourist spot as you get a beautiful view in the evening with the calm waters around. You can also spot a variety of colorful fishes and corals here. You will have to visit here before it gets dark as people are not allowed during the night due to high tides and it is very risky as you may hurt yourself easily due to the corals.
So on this day, we checked out from Neil, headed to the port, took a ferry to Port Blair, and took our next ride to Ross Island. The Ross Island has now officially called Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Island. This is a small yet beautiful Island, which is a tourist attraction. This place is full of deer’s. They are so friendly and they roam around freely.
This place has the historic ruins and says the history that took place here. You can take the cart rides available inside to check out the entire island (which will take about 20 minutes) or if you choose to take a walk, you can do that well. I suggest you take the ride, as if you do not have much time then you will not be able to complete the entire island.
After the visit to Ross Island, we returned to Port Blair and visited the Cellular Jail. Well this place has so much to offer. There is so much history to it and the way the prisoners were ill treated by the British back in those days and things they to get food and water in return and how they were exploited.
In addition, there is the lights and sound show that takes place in the evenings 6:00 PM (Hindi) and 7:00 PM (English). This show depicts the life of the prisoners and few remarkable personalities who were part of that era. Something unique about this light and sound show is that, it happens at the scheduled time no matter if people are present to watch it and it ends only after the whole thing completed, irrespective of the climatic conditions.
The day started very early by taking the Tempo traveler drive to reach the Baratang Island. This is a long journey by road through the forest reserve. You will have to reach the Convoy check post by 4:00 AM. Once you pass the check-post, you are not permitted to stop your car anywhere in between through the journey as this passes through the Jarawa Tribal belt.
After about an hour and a half journey by road, you will have to take the vehicle ferry to reach the Nilambur Jetty to take the permit to Baratang Island. From there we took a boat ride into the beautiful Mangrove forests to the Limestone caves. This journey and destination is a visual treat to nature lovers. This is a naturally formed cave over the years.
The end to a beautiful and memorable trip has come. We had our flights to different cities at different times. Heads up, the chances for flight delays are high so book your flights back at least a couple of hours early so you can match up in case there is a delay. The last day at Port Blair we went around exploring the nearby shops so that we could pick up souvenirs back home. The most recommended shop was the government emporium (Sagarika), which by the way is closed on the weekends.
Some important things to remember for your travel and stay at Andaman Islands ~
a) Carry your original ID proof as you need them for most of the ferry rides.
b) Remember to carry your sunscreen lotion (both for face and your body) as the sea water and the sun tans your skin pretty fast.
c) Carry your rain coat and an umbrella if you are going during the rainy season so that you have an uninterrupted vacay.
d) Carry a waterproof cover for your backpack (you will find these on Amazon).
e) Carry Odomos or any other mosquito repellent as you may need them during treks.
