PRASHAR LAKE

The lake is located at a height of 2730 m above sea level. With deep blue waters, the lake is held sacred to the sage Prashar and he is regarded to have meditated there.

There is a round, floating island inside the lake, which is a common natural phenomenon found all around the world. The floating land moves in all directions in the lake. The floating land covers 7% of area of lake whereas water is with 93%

The lake has a floating island in it and it is said to be unclear how deep it is, with a diver not being able to determine its depth

PRASHAR TEMPLE

The temple was built in the thirteenth century and legend has it was built by a baby from a single tree.

It is believed that Sage Prashar meditated on the banks of this lake, hence it is named as Prashar Lake. Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, had created the lake.

The story says, after the Kurukshetra / Mahabharata war, Pandavas were returning with Lord Kamrunag. When they reached this place, Kamrunag loves the tranquil surroundings and decides to live here forever. So, Bheem (the strongest of the lot) rams his elbow on one of the mountains and creates a big dent in the land. This dent became Prashar Lake.

Day 2

WHEN TO VISIT

This lake is open for visitors throughout the year, including winter months. mostly tourism here happens in summer,

but according to me if you really want to see how heaven look like then try come to the lake while it is covered completely under a thick sheet of snow in the month of january till march.

HOW TO VISIT

1) Through any good travel company you can plan your trip to Prashar lake by road.

2)Delhi to Mandi by road through Volvo bus which you can get from majnu ka tila, Rk ashram, ISBT , it will take almost 10-11 hr to reach till mandi , from Mandi again you need to take bus who will droop you til baggi from where you can start your journey till prashar lake which is 71 km by road i but if you do trekking it will be 8 km .

Delhi to Chandigarh From road will be very smooth and you can easily reach there in 5-6hr from Chandigarh, the route is Roopnagar – Ghanauli – Kiratpur Sahib – Bilaspur – Barmana – Sundernagar –

3)Mandi to Prashar Lake :Prashar Lake is located at a distance of about 55 kilometers from Mandi. The route will be Mandi – Bijani – Kamand – Baggi – Prashar Lake. Condition of this road will heavily depend on your time of travel but it will be just about average at its best.

If you were visiting here during monsoon, then even this stretch will have several bad sections full of slush. It is a narrow winding road and the entire drive is really steep climb all the way till the top. I will strongly advise to go slow and carefully as the traffic here is two ways.

These are dormitory type rooms offered by the temple at a very nominal price at Prashar lake temple , You can talk to the people at the temple about it and for a few hundred, they will give you a couple of blankets and open one room.

4)Camping at Prashar Lake

There is one camp site however that have their own washroom set up, two cabin sized ones. The only problem is that this particular camp site is about 2 kilometers walk from the lake Camp
