I landed in Copenhagen , Denmark on a cold morning in October, 2021. Well, it was a not a pleasure trip but a work deputation. So here I was stationed in the world's happiest city for about a year due to my work commitments. I had heard a lot about the Danish winter before coming here. Most part of the winter is dark and gloomy and extremely harsh is what I heard from most of my coworkers. Let me assure you it is cold , but not at all boring. Moreover, I would rather say it is extremely charming and a different experience for a person arriving from more warmer parts of the world.

You will get all the modes of transport from the airport to the main city. It is better to get a rejsekort (travel card) in the airport vending machine and top up with some money as this card can be used in all the modes of transport in the city and is quite handy when you travel. You can also opt for the Copenhagen card mainly useful for the tourists.

There are quite a few things to visit inside the city of Copenhagen. You can find good decent hotels in and around the area of the copenhagen central station area. Places of interest are Tivoli gardens, Stroget walking street,Radhuspladen and Nyhavn. Tivoli gardens is ideally a day long visit. This amusement park is open till 10 PM so it will be fine if you visit the other places here and then sneak into Tivoli Gardens in all its glory with the lights on.

Just beyond Tivoli gardens lies the Copenhagen community hall and radhuspladsen square which gives you a beautiful 360 degree view with buildings which give you an old world charm and a mix of modern day hustle bustle.

Stroget is the most happening shopping eating destination in Copenhagen with numerous restaurants and food joints offering a gastronomic delight in every corner. It is home to all the famous local and international clothing and shopping brands. Best time to visit will be in and around Christmas time to get a flavor of three large Christmas markets in the vicinity.

The same street will lead you to Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn. Kongens Nytorv is again a beautiful square and houses a magnificent palace. Just beyond that is Nyhavn , the most iconic location of Copenhagen. It has a flavor of its own with the roadside cafes and colourful buildings along the harbour side. You can take a ferry tour from here and also from Gammel Strand. The ferry tour is a nice way to visit the city in an hour if you have time. Nyhavn is a harbour which dates back to the 17th century. You will find building dating back to the 1700 s in the vicinity. Check out the cafes offering various Scandinavian delicacies and awesome coffees.
