Today our story is about Kuldhara Village or you can entitle it as Ghost Village. With the word ghost, a cool sensation is swirling up to everyone’s body. Right? Exploring those places, like peeping into the ghost life, who were used to be natives. As an avid traveler, we also had that curiosity of peeping.

It is an abandoned village about 20 km away from the Thar Desert, to the west of the Jaisalmer district.

Earlier we had a plan to directly stop at the Thar Desert. But in the middle of our way, our car driver further lighted up the level of our excitement by adding up the Kuldhara village tour in our tour itinerary.

So according to our new plan we took a left turn and headed towards the Kuldhara Village. It took around 15 mins to reach the spot. On the way, we spotted a maximum number of three to four houses in this long stretch. Finally, we reached the village gate, deserted all around.

We took the tickets and entered the village. Though it is a haunted place but no need to panic in the daytime. You can’t feel any paranormal activities as far as our experience is concerned.

Though our car driver already narrated the story but who wants to miss the chance to listen to the story again from an old native man. They are always the best storyteller.

According to him, “More than 200 years ago the village was full of residents. They were a group of nomads traveling from Pali, Jodhpur and resided there and grew up a village under Salim Sing, one of the then Zamindars or Rulers. He was famous for his deviant deeds towards girl and wickedness behavior of collecting taxes. Paliwals failed to pay a huge amount of taxes imposed by Salim. One day when Salim Singh came to the village to warn, his eyes fell on the Paliwal chief’s daughter. Salim gave a proposal to the chief that he could withdraw the tax amount if he was ready to give his daughter’s hand to him and gave a day to take the final decision. Paliwals were Brahmin in religion and handed over the chief’s daughter to Salim was disrespect for them. So they took a decision. All the residents just vanished within a night. While leaving they cursed Zamindar Salim that nobody could never ever stay in this village ever after”.

After the story time, now it was the time to hop around. Most of the houses were shattered. Now the Government of Rajasthan takes care of this place and made little renovation for the tourist visit.

We moved forward to a house and stepped up on the terrace by adjacent stairs. We noticed all the houses were tumbledown eventually and bricks were shuffled on the ground. At the entrance of the gate was a small temple along with the shacks at the bottom for lamps. The curse turned a happy village into a desolated place.

Kuldhara Village – Really the house of Ghost!

Different tempting stories spread all over. Some say the insatiable souls of inhabitants are roaming all around the village and restraint the village from further staying. A group of 14 members of Delhi Paranoid Committee made an expedition at night time. They also reported some unnatural behavior of the village.

After 6 pm the locals close the door of the village as, till today they believe the spirits are haunting after the sunset.

We quickly took some photographs and leaving the village behind, we headed towards the Thar Desert of Rajasthan.
