Day 1

Lonavla, Khandala or Mahabaleshwar, these are widely popular monsoon destinations for Indian tourists. Its hard to get hotel bookings and some away from the crowd moments in these hill stations. Planning a trip to Western Ghat is not always possible either for tourists of other states. Madhya Pradesh has its own monsoon gem located near Rewa and it is much less crowded than most tourist places.

We set out for Deur Kothar Buddhist Stupa on a rainy morning from Prayagraj. The destination is only 70kms from the city and also very close from Satna and Rewa. The specialty of the location lies in the historical significance aided with natural panorama.
The stupas here were built during king Ashoka's reign. The rain washed bricks with a background of lush green grass and fresh leaves is a view to remember.

Walking ahead you will find a very old Stupa covered completely with grass. The view simply reminds you how everything eventually merges with nature.

Futher ahead of the stupas there is a cliff. The view is similar to the tablelands of Western Ghat. Covered with all shades of green the hills and plateau are as picturesque as it can get. You can also see the waterfalls from the top.

If you can't manage a long holiday but want to witness monsoon magic, this the perfect one day gateway.  The place is not crowded at all, giving you the peace and quiet to enjoy nature. Get your own food and drinks since shops are not available close by and you can have a day long picnic.
Also the Mukundpur tiger reserve is close by. If you have time you can always drive to this zoo. I will not suggest the wildlife safari over here; other than that the zoo is quite good.
