When we reached Shimla, we didn't check in to our hotel. We went to Viceregal Lodge first which is a historical place museum and is one of the main tourist attractions of Shimla. The British had built it but now it is used for research purposes by prominent Indian scholars. What is most attractive about Viceregal Lodge is its beautiful architecture. It is a colonial building of which you get a full inside tour by experienced guides. Tourists are however not allowed to take photos inside the museum. One can buy souvenirs like t-shirts, pens, hats etc. from the shop of the museum.
The former Viceregal lodge of Shimla is now better known as the Rashtrapati Niwas. The majestic colonial mansion is located on the Observatory Hills of Shimla and makes for an amazing afternoon excursion. The structure is reminiscent of the Victorian era when Shimla was the summer capital of the British Government in India. It is one of the historic places to visit in Shimla. Viceregal Lodge is open from 930am to 530pm and it is closed on Mondays. Entrance fee is ₹40 for Indians and ₹85 for foreigners.Visit the Jakhoo Temple
