Drubcchu Resort is a little paradise in Bhutan

Tripoto

One can't help but fall in love the minute you drive through Punakha. Punakha is undoubtedly the best that Bhutan has to offer. It is everything I thought of - clean, scenic, peaceful and uncrowded. The small town in the Himalayas should ideally be a part of every Bhutan itinerary. My stay in Bhutan was at the Drubchhu Resort which is a family owned property which will make you feel at home in no time.

Location

The resort is easy to reach and has an enormous parking space. You can easily walk to the famous Chimi Lhakhang temple from Drubchhu. The resort is also close to the small town of Missina where you can find the local market, bars, restaurants and quaint shops. When it comes to the location, it is in close driving range of all the myriad sights and activities in the valley.

Rooms

Drubchhu resort has deluxe rooms and superior rooms. There are 27 rooms in total which are spread across the property. The rooms have an electronic personal safe, telephone connection, WiFi, coffee/ tea maker and complimentary water. All the rooms are spacious and give a beautiful view of the valley. The bathrooms are slightly smaller in size and only deluxe rooms have a bathtub. The superior rooms do not have a bathtub, they only have a walk in shower. Compared to the size of the room, the bathroom is indeed quite small. The room is spacious, has a large bed and a comfortable workspace.

Food

You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the dining options. There is a Mad Man bar which is extremely beautifully decorated with yellow fairy lights in the night. Then there is the formal Ari restaurant and a Drubcchu cafe. The cafe is a must visit and will give you mind blowing views of the sunset. The food served at the cafe is prepared in the main kitchen which means it might take longer than normal for your food to arrive. A cup of coffee at Drubcchu cafe is worth it. The meals served at the restaurant are pretty decent in terms of taste. I was not really satisfied with the dinner and breakfast served here. It is good enough to fill your stomach though.

Public spaces

The public spaces inside Drubcchu resort need a special mention. Apart from the cozy and welcoming reception area, there are a number of spots in the resort where you will simply want to sit back and soak in the peace and serenity that Bhutan offers. There is a beautiful seating area at Drubcchu cafe and there are well placed swings and wooden chairs across the property. The property has lush greenery and mind blowing flora and fauna. This is one property where the outdoor public spaces were exceptional as compared to the public area indoor. Sit back and relax with a cup of coffee or a book and it will leave you feeling energized and refreshed.

Verdict

The service at Drubcchu resort is commendable. The staff is polite and well trained. They ensure that your stay at the property is comfortable. However, the WiFi does not work well here, hence if you think you will catch up on the emails while holidaying, it could be difficult for you to do so. Apart from that, the resort is indeed a good place for a digital detox and could leave you feeling relaxed and calm by the end of your stay.
