And that’s what I call providing impeccable service!
Too large to fit on plane seats as a child, 25-year-old Rumeysa Gelgi, who stands at 7 feet and an inch, had never been able to travel by flight due to her 'tall' stature. It is caused by a condition called Weaver Syndrome - a rare genetic condition that not only causes change in the facial appearance, rapid growth, less muscle tone, bone overgrowth but also learning and physical disabilities.
Ms. Gelgi, who was confirmed as the world's tallest living woman by Guinness World Records last year and works in the software technology industry usually gets around in a specialized wheelchair but is able to walk with the assistance of a cane.
Ms. Gelgi holds records in the Guinness Book of Records since her teenage years. Considered the tallest-living teenage girl in 2014, she went on to enter the Guinness Book of Records earlier with the longest finger and hand and the largest hand of a living woman and then as the tallest living woman!
For a person who could never travel by flight, Turkish Airlines surely made it special for her! In September, when she flew from Istanbul to San Francisco by Turkish Airlines, they modified one of their planes to specifically accommodate her travel experience, by removing six seats and replacing them with a special stretcher for her to lie down for a 13-hour flight.
She described her journey as “flawless from start to finish” and went on to share a warm note of thanks on Instagram - "A heartfelt thank you to every single person involved in my journey." A well-deserved feedback for Turkish Airlines who went out above and beyond to provide Ms. Gelgi her first ever comfortable flight experience she would remember forever.
Time for all the other airlines to take notice and provide the same or better level of travel experience to their passengers!
