As we entered the Seychelles, we got unique stamps on our passports.. further, we noticed locals wearing earrings and neckpiece of the same shape..
very curious about it, we got to learn about COCO DE MER.The French name meaning sea coconut.A cultural icon of the country. The plant resembles a palm tree with a few adaptations.Male and female plants are saperate.Pollination by wind or by endemic lizard, gecko happens throughout the year. It takes around 7 years to form a fruit on female plant. The fruit is like a huge coconut weighing 15-30kg.In the fruit there is the legendary nut covered by husk. This mysterious nut weights up to 17kg.The core of the nut is in the gel form which is edible, later it dries up.The species being endemic and rare, it's banned from eating, buying and carrying out the country. This core is exported for medical purpose. The small country is known to the world for producing the world's largest nut.
