Day 1

Majestic, magnificent, mesmerizing are some adjectives which come closer to describing the abundance of nature s beauty at this valley.... And I am surprised that many of us are unaware of this beauty in the farthest corner of North of Sikkim!

While my family and me were absolutely sure that we wanted our family vacation to be off beat and to a slightly uncharted terrain of India and hence we had chosen North East, we were in for an extraordinary surprise when we reached this valley.

We stayed at Gangtok for two days and then proceeded to Lachen. We planned for a day's stay at Lachen and then proceeded to Lachung. Yumthang Valley is about 2 hours from Lachung.

Words wouldn't be enough to explain the experience of being in the valley.. The dwindling narrow nature clad road to the valley brought us to the pinnacle of curiosity about it. On the way, I witnessed magic by the divine Himself in the form of rhododendrons in a range of beautiful colors.. Rhododendron is a flower which blossoms in this valley in the months of February to mid June. The flower flowers in seven colors such as white, pink, red, violet and so on. As if God decided to paint the same tree and flowers in different colors and shades.

We strive to attend the cherry blossoms across the globe and most of us are ignorant of our very own blossom season...

While on the way to the valley, the driver kept sharing many stories of landslides, deadly avalanches and other such natural calamities that have occurred in the valley. And yet the beauty of this place stays as is...overpowering yet pristine.

When we reached the valley, I was completely captivated by the sheer magnificence and beauty of it... What an enchanting view... I was under a beautiful spell... River teesta flowing gently yet with power...the majestic lush green mountains on one side of teesta and the shimmering white snow clad mountains on the other side and a huge expanse of the valley amidst these alongside the river... There were pretty round stones all across the bay. Those stones are specifically found here. There were huge rocks as well in the valley...animals grazing lazily. Time stopped here but being tourists we had to come out of the hamlet and leave for our next destination.

I would give an arm to be there again and just submit myself to the quiet, pristine and stunning landscapes of the Yumthang Valley!
