Spain was one of the worst-hit European countries due to COVID-19 pandemic with one of the highest death tolls in the world. The country had implemented strict lockdown measures for almost two months by only allowing essential businesses to run. However, in the last two weeks, it has been successful in flattening the curve and easing the lockdown measures.
Spain is hailed as the second most popular nation for tourism in the world and welcomes approximately 80 million tourists every year. The tourism industry contributes 12% of the GDP of Spain and employs a number of people. Therefore, the current announcement is a harbinger of hope for both the Spanish citizens and the foreign tourists to gain normalcy in post-COVID-19 times.
Assuring the safety of tourists post their arrival during the ongoing crisis, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that Spain needed tourism to run, and tourism had to ensure safety in both origin and destination. He also guaranteed that the tourists will not run any risks and will not bring any risk into the country either.
