Now you can take a glass-bottom boat ride to Gulf of Mannar marine national park, according to media reports. However, for the first time, the Tamil Nadu Tourism and Forest Department took the effort to allow boat rides to Kurusadai Island.

What makes this boat ride so amazing?

The Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park is surrounded by estuaries, mangroves, and 21 islands. It is a field of azure that is home to some of the most amazing species of marine life.

While on the ride, you can spot corals, fish, seagrass, and other marine life. Also, commonly found here are turtles, pearl oysters, sea cucumbers, dolphins, seahorses, barracuda, herrings, whales, and dugongs. Do not forget to carry your binoculars as you can spot more than 180 species of birds here.

Boat ride timings

These boat cruises are scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Rides may, however, be cancelled if weather conditions are unfavourable or chaotic. Visitors will also be able to take photographs of the islands and the birds, flowers, and species that inhabit there. The 90-minute round trip to the Kurusadai islands begins at the jetty in Kunthukal, about 10 kilometers south of Rameswaram.

Cost of the boat ride

12 people can ride at a time, with lifeguards accompanying them. The boat journey costs Rs. 400 per person and children under the age of eight are not permitted to ride. Tourists have been warned not to bring any flammable materials with them and to avoid using plastic.
