About Kalpa

The essence of Kalpa lies in its mystical alliance of Hinduism and Buddhism. This Himachal Pradesh town is adorned with myriad temples and monasteries, which will pull you with their exquisite architecture if not faith. Some ornate archetypes of Kinnauri craftsmanship are the Narayan Nagini temple and the Hu-Bu-Lan-Kar monastery, which is a favourite among history buffs, considering that it was built around 950-1055 AD. Kalpa is home to a lot of resorts and adventure camps that offer everything from rock climbing, trekking, river crossing, rappelling, paragliding, river rafting, trout fishing, camping, angling in the Baspa River and mountain biking. For trekking enthusiasts and explorers, the Chakka peak standing at 15000 ft above the sea level is a must try. For those who wish to do some local shopping, Basteri Village is a charming little hamlet, 8 km away from Sangla, from where Kinnauri handicrafts, woollen apparel and even Chilgoza (local pine nuts) make for interesting purchases. Also, a trout fishing farm lies en-route this village. Besides what your guesthouses might be serving you, Kalpa doesn't particularly possess an array of any special restaurants except dhabas (roadside food shacks) where you can have your quota of knick-knacks and drinks. Some places although, that are well known among travellers are Chef's Restaurant and Hotel Golden Apple for Indian and Tibetan dishes.
