Raigad is fort in maharashtra, build by Chhatrapati shivaji maharaj. Once it was the capital of maratha empire. The fort is is raigad district , mahad taluka.
This is the fort where Chhatrapati shivaji maharaj was crowned as king of maratha kingdom . This fort rises 820 mtrs above sea level and situated in sahyadri mountain range.
The main door of this fort " mahadaravaja" is 65-70 ft. And top of the fort is 6000 ft higher from the location of this door.

Every year on 6th june which was the day "chhatrapati shivaji maharaj was crowned as king of maratha empire" lot of people come here and celebrate this day as a festival.
You must do treck here..this fort gives you mesmerising view of sahyadi mountain range..alomost 5000 steps are there. Otherwise you can use ropeway also. If you go in rainy season you will find waterfalls also. This fort is one of the major jewel of maratha empire!
