What is Rajasthan International Folk Festival also known as Jodhpur RIFF 2023?

The Rajasthan International Folk Festival, affectionately known as Jodhpur RIFF, is an annual extravaganza celebrating the harmonious fusion of music and art. This enchanting festival pays homage to the traditional folk music and arts of Rajasthan, as well as those from around the world. Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, which offers a breathtaking vista of Jodhpur, this event is a testament to cultural splendor.

Launched in 2007 and meticulously organized by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust and the Jaipur Virasat Foundation, with valuable support from UNESCO and various partners, Jodhpur RIFF has flourished over the years. It has expanded its horizons in terms of size, diversity, and global influence, attracting over 500 artists hailing from more than 30 countries spanning six continents.

Dates and Timing of the Rajasthan International Folk Festival 2023

Rajasthan International Folk Festival is held every year in October, coinciding with the Sharad Purnima full moon. The festival lasts for five days, starting from the day before the full moon and ending on the day after the full moon.

This year the festival is happening from October 27 to October 30.

Venue of the Rajasthan International Folk Festival

The Rajasthan International Folk Festival 2023 will take place at various venues within and around the Mehrangarh Fort. Some of the venues where the festival takes place are:

The Old Zenana Courtyard: This is a large courtyard that was used by the royal women of the fort. It is now used as the main stage for the opening night and the living legends sessions.

The Jaswant Thada: A beautiful marble cenotaph that was built in 1899 by Maharaja Sardar Singh in memory of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It is now used as the venue for the dawn concerts.

The Veer Durga Das Memorial Park: A park that was built in 1997 by HH Gaj Singh II in memory of his ancestor Veer Durga Das Rathore, who was a brave warrior and a loyal minister of Jodhpur. It is now used as the venue for the club Mehran concerts.

The Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park: This park was created in 2006 by restoring an ecologically degraded area near the fort. It has various rock formations, plants, animals, and birds that are native to the Thar Desert. It is now used as the venue for some of the workshops, lectures, and exhibitions.

Online and offline booking: The online booking can be done through the official website of the festival or through various travel portals whereas the offline booking can be done through the authorized agents and outlets of the festival, listed on the website.

Some of the types of tickets and packages are:

Day Pass: This is a ticket that allows access to all the events and venues of the festival for a single day. The price of the day pass is Rs 500 for Indian nationals and Rs 1000 for foreign nationals.

Season Pass: This is a ticket that allows access to all the events and venues of the festival for all five days. The price of the season pass is Rs. 2,000 for Indian nationals and Rs. 4,000 for foreign nationals.

RIFF Experience Package: This is a package that includes a season pass, accommodation, meals, transfers, and sightseeing for all five days of the festival. Available in different categories such as budget, deluxe, luxury, etc.

RIFF Tour Package: This is a package that includes a RIFF experience package along with a tour of Rajasthan before or after the festival. The package is available in different options such as bus tours, city tours, historical tours, adventure tours, air tours, etc. The price of the package varies depending on the option and availability.

All day passes and full festival passes are non-refundable and does not include food, drinks, souvenirs and others. Children below the age of 12 does not need a pass but proof for the age should be presented.

How to Reach?

1. By Air: Jodhpur has its own domestic airport, which is located around 5 km from the city centre. Flights from New Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Udaipur and other important Indian cities serve Jodhpur on a daily basis.

2. By Rail: Trains from New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Jaipur and several other cities serve the city of Jodhpur. Apart from regular express and mail trains, the luxurious Palace on Wheels also caters to Jodhpur city.

3. By Road: Direct buses from New Delhi and Jaipur make road connectivity with Jodhpur convenient. Government-run Volvo coaches as well as numerous private deluxe and luxury buses are available in this route.
